Building A Lifestyle Business Online

Delicious Brownies don't happen by accident.
It’s carefully planned. Each ingredient goes in at the exact right time and in the exact right quantity.
A cake or delicious brownies requires planning, and so does a lifestyle business.
However, what most people do is they try to bake a cake by throwing together random things, and then they wonder why they end up with a black ball that tastes like crap.
Even though building a business is not like following a recipe, it still requires planning, strategy, and goal setting.

Why Less Time is Better

You don’t have to quit your job to start your own online business.
The more time you have, the more time you’ll spend up messing around on trivial tasks.
It’s Parkinson’s law in action: “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.”
Remember in school when you had a deadline on a paper. If you were like most people, you waited until the very end to get it done.
If you have two hours a day, a strategy, and a goal, you can focus on just high-value tasks.
If you do that, you’ll get more done than most full-time internet marketers.
But before you can get anything productive done, you have to know where you’re going.

Goal Settings + Planning = Focus

Do you know what you want?
If not, you’re not alone. Most people don’t know what they want at first.
But if you don’t know what you want, how will you know when you’ve arrived?
Do you want to make $1,000/month from your lifestyle business?
When you know what you want, you can break it down into milestones, and then into daily steps.
You know what happens then, right?
You can focus on the tasks that take you closer to your goal, instead of reading blogs, chatting on Twitter, and posting pictures on Facebook.

But Planning on This Scale RARELY Happens

Because it’s hard.
If you have a vague goal, at least you have a reason why you didn’t succeed.
If you want to build a lifestyle business, you have to have a goal, a strategy, and a plan.
In essence, you have to have a blueprint that helps you focus.
This doesn’t mean that you know every step, or even that a recipe for success exists.
It means you have a clear destination in mind, and you plan as best you can.
From there, you take action and deal with life.

But What if just Writing an Article Takes Me Three Days?”

The more you write, the faster you’ll get.
When I started, I couldn’t write more than one article every few days.
Now I can get an article like this out in about 30-60 minutes.
If writing stops you, then create a podcast, make videos, or use a voice-to-text program like Dragon Naturally Speaking.
The only limits that exist are the ones you impose on yourself.

Okay 2 Hours a Day, But How Many Years is it Going to Take?”

Here’s the thing, most people don’t make progress because they’re scared of doing the very things that have the biggest impact.
They procrastinate and look for the easy way. They look for a way to sneak under the radar and avoid the discomfort.
I tried to do that, and it took me a few years to realize that the more I faced my fears, the more results I got.
This isn’t easy, but if you’re sick of shortcuts and want real results, you can build a lifestyle business in less than two hours a day.
And everything you think is stopping you is just an excuse.
When you’re ready to take action, you’ll do whatever it takes.

Summary

Baking a delicious cake or brownies that melts like butter when you put in your mouth doesn’t happen by accident, and the same holds true for building your lifestyle business.
You need a blueprint.
And you need to know where you’re going. You need to know your end destination.
From there, you break down your goal into milestones and then daily steps.
Excuses will fall to the wayside when you’re determined enough to succeed.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re working, have kids, or don’t think you’re a good writer.
If you want to do this, you can, but you have to make the commitment.

Action Steps

Today’s assignment is simple: figure out what your goal is.
The goal should be practical, and specific, but it should also stretch you (i.e. make you slightly uncomfortable).
An example could be: Build a lifestyle business in 2012 that makes $500/month through turning my advice into products and services.
Or buy delicious coffee (which you would buy anyway right?) and drink - share - earn $1000's per month for almost only the cost of the coffee. I will offer a refund of $20 on the initial order for anyone purchasing a Starter Pack or $50 on a Business Pack or Business Elite Pack purchased through my site. The Business Pack and Business Elite Pack are deep discounts on the coffee price and well worth the investment in prizes and bonuses.

Do you have what it takes ?

Do  not be concerned with the fruit of your action, just give attention to the action itself.
The fruit will come of it's own accord.

Do you have what it takes to be successful?

Would you do whatever it took to be successful?
I sincerely hope that you answered no to that question.
Why?
Because you need to do whatever it takes, but you need to do it
with honesty, with integrity, and with compassion.
This is what separates the people with ethics, and those
without.
If you are willing to tread on another human being, to get what you want, then
it is my opinion that you need to rethink your perspectives on life.
So what exactly do I mean when I say "Whatever it takes"?
What I'm saying is that you do what needs to be done, when it needs
to be done, you don't wait, you don't delay, you don't make
excuses, you take responsibility.
When opportunity arises you seize it with both hands and don't let
go until you've driven it forward!

You will feel a sense of accomplishment from the results which will motivate you to keep the momentum going to a successful end. You have to believe and have faith in yourself that whatever you want to happen will happen. With patience and love you will manifest your dreams to prosperity. Whatever your personal preference, just keep in mind to always remain disciplined and committed.

You are the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with. Rohn

One of the most important requisites to creating your financial goals/plan is receiving a financial education. I remember taking algebra in high school, something that I have almost never used since then. However, I was never offered a class on wealth or success. In college, some may have taken economics, finance, or accounting, but most of us learn about money from our family and friends. Unfortunately, our family and friends are often living paycheck to paycheck or have not reached their own financial goals. Who, then, should you go to for financial advice or a financial education?
There are three types of people that you can choose to learn from:
1. Those who have never been wealthy/successful
2. Those who have tried to become wealthy/successful but have failed
3. Those who have tried to become wealthy/successful and have succeeded
If you are looking for an education in money, wealth or success, the best way to learn about achieving those things is from people who are more wealthy or successful than you. Who are you taking advice from? How many people do you know personally who have achieved the level of success or wealth that you hope to achieve? If the answer is “none”, then here are some ideas:
Subscribe to Morning Coach. JB talks about the topic of abundance and money every Friday. The other days of the week hold excellent information on money and success as well!
Get some audio books. This is an excellent way to begin learning about success, wealth creation, investing, or whatever else you might want to learn more about! Download books onto your MP3 to listen to anywhere, anytime. Your local library has some great books on CD to get you started!
Attend some seminars. There are so many ways to create wealth and success. Once you figure out which ones interest you, go online and search for seminars on your topic of choice. Make sure you check to see if the presenter is truly an expert and someone that you find to be a credible source of information!
Mentors. Find someone who would be an excellent source of information and invite them to lunch. Most people love to share their story and will make time to lend a helping hand.
Coaching. A financial or success coach is an excellent investment in your future and will give you a much more personalized plan. Find someone you resonate with and stick with the program!

Ahhh, an opportunity to start fresh and begin a new year full of potential. The New Year’s resolutions are set, and the motivation to pursue each and every one of them is high. Yet, more often than not, they do not get accomplished.  I believe people start out with great intentions on pursuing their resolutions to improve a certain area in their life, which is very commendable.  However, through time, these resolutions begin to erode and turn into a memory of what should have been.
The reason people often fail at attaining their New Year’s resolutions is not because they lack discipline but because they lack, what I like to call, the “Why Factor”.  The Why Factor is not just a basic superficial explanation of why you chose that particular resolution; it is a deep esoteric meaning that is rooted within the very essence of who you are.
A common New Year’s resolution is to lose weight, and it seems that the most common drive behind this resolution is just to look good.  The problem with this approach is that it’s superficial.  Goal’s fueled by shallow perceptions are often not attained because there is a lack of a deeper intention.  For this very reason, my fitness and martial arts mentor, Mike Lee Kanarek, has always professed to me to never workout for the mirror but, instead, workout with the purpose of taking care of and honoring my body for the benefits of my health and well being, adding to that the results in the mirror will automatically follow.  In other words, your “Why Factor” needs to be deeper than a superficial attainment; it needs to be authentic and resonate with your values and deeper self.
I believe that before we take our first step towards our goals, we must first take a personal inventory of our motives and assure ourselves that they are driven by a deeper reasoning. Making sure that we are pursuing our resolutions with a strong basis instead of a causal, simplistic approach will, in turn, provide us with the fuel to automatically develop the discipline needed in order to fully attain our New Year’s resolutions.
I hope that this post serves you well. I look forward to reading your thoughts and comments.

Get Clear on What You Want

Are you ready to make 2012 your best year yet?  It’s easy to start the new year full of enthusiasm and optimism. But to maintain your momentum through the year, you need to set powerful, crystal-clear goals. The first step to getting what you want out of life this is to decide exactly what you want.

What do you want to accomplish?
What do you want to experience?
What do you want to acquire?
Who do you want to be?

One of primary reasons most people don’t get what they want is that they aren’t clear about what they want. Others will recognize what they’d like to have, but when they can’t see how it’s possible to get what they want, and they dismiss their desires as foolish and unattainable.

Don’t sabotage yourself this way!

After decades of research into how the human brain works, scientists now know that for our brains to figure out
how to get what we want, we must first decide what we want. Once we lock-in our desires, our mind and the universe can step in to help make our dreams a reality.Dream Big

We start the process by getting clear about what we want. So, what do you want? To create a balanced and successful life, write down a minimum of 3 goals in each of the following 7 areas:

Financial Goals
Career/Business Goals
Free Time/Family Time
Health/Appearance Goals
Relationship Goals
Personal Growth
Making a Difference

If you have more goals than this, don’t limit yourself – write them down! On the other hand, if writing down 21 goals seems like a lot, remember that we can have a mix of long- and short-term goals. For example, in the financial area, you may have a short-term goal of paying off a $5,000 credit card balance, as well as a long-term goal of amassing a net worth of $5 million dollars. You want to keep both goals present in your mind, even though you’ll be working more actively on the short-term goal first.
Stretch Yourself

When setting our goals, it’s important to include a few that will make us stretch and grow to achieve them. These might be learning a new skill or trying something that is uncomfortable and maybe a little frightening, such as public speaking. It also helps to set a breakthrough goal that would represent a quantum leap. Examples of breakthrough goals include publishing a book, starting a business, getting on Oprah, winning a gold medal at the Olympics, or getting elected president of your industry association.

Material goals are important, but the ultimate goal is to become a master at life. In the long run, the greatest benefit we receive from pursuing our dreams is not the outer trappings of fulfilling the dream, but who we become in the process.

The outer symbols of success can all be easily lost. Houses burn down, companies go bankrupt, relationships end, cars get old, bodies age and fame wanes, but who you are, what you have learned, and the new skills you have developed never go away. These are the true prizes of success. Motivational philosopher Jim Rohn advises that
“You should set a goal big enough that in the process of achieving it, you become someone worth becoming.”
Turn Your Dreams Into Goals and Objectives

Once you are clear about what you want, write them down and turn each item into a measurable objective. Measurable means measurable in space and time – how much and by when.

For instance, if you were to tell me that you wanted more money, I might pull out a dollar and give it to you. You would probably protest, saying “No, I meant a lot more money, like $20,000!” But there is no way I’d know how you’d define “more money” unless you tell me, right?

Similarly, your boss, your friends, your spouse, your brain, God, and the Universe can’t figure out what you want unless you tell them specifically what it is. What exactly do you want and when do you want it by?
Your Goals Impact Others

As soon as you commit to a big dream and really go after it, your subconscious creative mind will come up with big ideas to make it happen. You’ll start attracting the people, resources, and opportunities you need into your life to make your dream come true. Big dreams not only inspire you, they compel others to want to play big, too.

You’ll also discover that when your dreams include service to others – that is, accomplishing something that contributes to others – it accelerates the accomplishment of that goal. People want to be part of something that contributes and makes a difference.
Work on Your Goals Daily

To keep your subconscious mind focused on what you want, read your list of goals everyday. For an even more powerful approach, close your eyes and focus on each goal and ask yourself,
"What is one thing I could do today to move toward the achievement of this goal?" Write down your answers and take those actions.

As the old joke goes, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” Steady progress in bite-sized chunks puts even the most audacious goals into reach.
